Original Content Development
ALCOSAN
i-Squared participated in the development of a new customer billing system for ALCOSAN by designing and creating the user training materials. We provided stand-up training, step-by-step tutorials, and “coaching” (audience-sensitive instruction), along with exercises and reviews. The project spanned 8 months and included a Project Manager and two Information Specialists.
ALCOSAN ERF
The Energy Recovery Facility provides the steam needed to heat the entire ALCOSAN plant. This facility requires knowledgeable operations and technicians to keep it running optimally. i-Squared gathered 30 years of knowledge from the facility’s maintenance supervisor and developed training materials for the field and control room operators.
Allegheny Technologies
i-Squared designed and implemented a full, self-service help system for ATI Today content providers. The online help for content providers reflected AT’s customization of the portal product. The help system, accessible from every desktop, offers full text and keyword search, and includes full process flowcharts for building communities and understanding the document approval process. The system also includes instructions and checklists for content provider tasks and responsibilities.
Cardiac Telecom
i-Squared wrote hardware and software user manuals for Cardiac Telecom’s remote heart monitoring equipment. The manuals had to be written for several audiences and multiple approaches had to be devised for each. Graphic illustrations were used extensively throughout the patient manuals.
Carnegie Mellon Research Institute (CMRI)
An i-Squared team of documentation specialists designed a strategy, provided costs, and implemented that strategy for writing both hardcopy and online documentation for CMRI’s application. This robotic application automated the bundling and palletizing of the New York Times. CMRI entirely outsourced the effort to i-Squared.
Central Blood Bank
The Information Systems department of this large Pittsburgh biomedical firm brought in i-Squared to create an online user documentation system for a sizable systems developments initiative. The initiative involved a rewrite of the enterprise’s product tracking software system. i-Squared provided a turnkey product, performing an extensive audit of the company’s existing system, proposing recommendations and strategies, and developing methodologies for creatings, reviewing, maintaining, and automating the user documentation. Our work included creating online, step-by-step end-user documentation and compilation of the database dictionary. Because we were involved during the requirements and coding phases of the project, we were able to act as mediators between the IS department and its end users and offer useful consultation on the functionality of much of the software.
